Mission
At Friends of the Yolo County Animal Services, our hearts are with the animals who need us most. Our mission is simple but powerful: to support Yolo County Animal Services in improving the lives and welfare of every animal that comes into their care, going beyond the typical expectations of a municipal, open-admission shelter.
About Us
We believe every animal deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life. Whether an animal is in the shelter or placed with a loving foster, we work to create better conditions, promote adoptions, and increase the number of positive outcomes for our community’s most vulnerable pets.
Sometimes that means stepping in when animals need more than basic care, when they require medical treatment beyond what the shelter can provide. From emergency surgeries to specialized procedures, we help ensure that no animal is left behind due to cost or complexity.
We also support vital initiatives that strengthen the entire sheltering system, including expanded spay/neuter programs, enrichment activities to support animal well-being, and training for the dedicated staff and volunteers who provide daily care and compassion.
Our work is grounded in the belief that compassionate, progressive animal services benefit the entire community. By advancing humane education, promoting responsible pet ownership, and creating pathways to lifelong homes, we are building a safer, more caring future for animals and people alike.
Together with our partners, we are redefining what’s possible for animal welfare in Yolo County.
